Why I'm Running

I believe that strong communities are built when people come together to find solutions, ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to thrive. It is our shared responsibility to care for one another and protect the beautiful environment we call home.

Service has always been at the heart of my work, and stepping up for this role is an extension of that commitment. Representing you on the County Council would be an honor, and I know the work ahead is a collective effort.

By working together with collaboration, courage, and compassion,  we can build a better future for everyone.

Affordable, Accessible Housing

Housing is a human right, and we need bold action to make that real in our community. I’m committed to expanding affordable housing by maximizing infill development, streamlining permitting, and investing in year-round emergency shelters and tiny home villages. I’ll work across public, private, and nonprofit sectors to support working families, strengthen tenant protections, and ensure our housing solutions meet both urgent and long-term needs.

Public Health & Community Well-Being

Healthy communities start with healthy people. I will advocate for investments that improve access to behavioral health care, preventative services, and childcare — especially in underserved communities. We need to build on efforts like the Healthy Children’s Fund and address the root causes of poor health by working across public health, housing, and economic development.

Clean Water, Healthy Forests, and Climate Resiliency

I’m committed to protecting Whatcom County’s clean water and forests while building long-term climate resiliency. We can do this by  expanding public transit to reduce emissions, preserving green spaces for all communities, encouraging density within our urban growth areas to avoid sprawl and protect farmland, and safeguarding Lake Whatcom as our drinking water source. I’ll advocate for smart land use, forest and salmon protection, and sustainable building practices that make our county more livable, affordable, and climate-ready for future generations.

Justice System Reimagined

I will continue the momentum behind the Justice Project by ensuring that our new jail and behavioral health center reflect values of dignity, treatment, and accountability. That means a strong focus on meaningful diversion programs, adequate behavioral health care, prevention and policy reforms that reduce incarceration rates. We have a chance to rethink how we handle justice in our county. Jail should be our last resort. I want to make sure we’re creating a system that supports people through trauma, not one that just cycles them through jail.

Strong Local Economy & Workforce Support

Whatcom County’s small businesses are vital to our economy and community identity. As a County Council member, I will support local entrepreneurs and businesses by strengthening infrastructure like affordable housing, accessible childcare, and reliable transportation. A thriving local economy depends on a community where families can live, work, and grow.

Inclusion, Accountability, and Transparency

The wisdom of our collective community is so much greater than that of any candidate or official. As a County Council Member, I will commit to actively include subject matter experts, scientists, and, most importantly, people with lived experiences to solve our community’s biggest issues. I will host regular town halls, attend union, neighborhood, and organizational events, and proactively seek out people who feel disenfranchised from local government. Not only will this bring forward great ideas, but it can also help build trust in our government and boost accountability and transparency.
